If you enjoy steam trains why not plan a days outing which starts with a morning  stroll through The Pantiles in the Spa town of Tunbridge Wells, this is an interesting historic colonnaded shopping precinct. Take a morning coffee at any one of several venues then walk round to The West Station (10 mins). The map on the website indicates parking.

 

Explore the Victorian Engine shed and the collection of locomotives and carriages before taking a steam train to Groombridge . Here you could spend the afternoon enjoying award winning Groombridge Place Gardens (where you can buy food). This features a 17^th century Manor House set in a moat dating back to 1230, and the Enchanted Forest will delight children. Joint railway and admission tickets are available.

 

You might prefer to lunch in Groombridge at the sixteenth century The Crown Inn, a good 15 minute walk from the station, some uphill. In fine weather you can sit outside facing the green. Alternatively you could plan to break the short  journey at High Rocks Halt and lunch at The High Rocks Inn.
