The Leicester Arms, once part of the Penshurst Estate, was owned by Sir William Sidney, grandfather of poet and statesman Sir Phillip Sidney. His other grandson, Viscount De L’isle was appointed Earl of Leicester in 1618 and it was shortly after this that The Leicester Arms, formerly known as The Porcupine, was renamed in his honour.

The Leicester Arms was sold by the De L’isle and Dudley family in 1912 and is now privately owned.

The heavily beamed bar is traditionally furnished and there is a large 60 seat restaurant at the rear of the building with a view of rising meadow lands through which flows the river Medway. The large secluded garden with lawns and flowerbeds can be enjoyed in summer and there is off road parking.

The bar is open 11am – 11pm (Sunday 12noon – 10.30) and food is available 12noon to 10pm. Every Monday is value for money Curry night and every Friday Steak night.
