THE SPOTTED DOG

Smarts Hill, Penshurst
Tel 01892 870253

What you get at The Spotted Dog, Penshurst, is a lovely old rambling 16th century white clapboard building (which started life as several cottages), panelling, low beams and three open fires. It is warm and welcoming in winter but equally enticing in summer. The pub is positioned in beautiful countryside with tiered beer gardens at the front and back, the latter affording an outstanding view.

This is a family-friendly pub where the older generation, children, tourists, walkers and dogs are all welcome. The food is mostly traditional English with some gourmet specials, and fish dishes are a speciality with fresh fish delivered daily. Consequently, the menu changes daily and there is also a children’s menu.

The pub is under new management (2009) and the landlord holds 'Cask Marque' accreditation. Being a free house there are different beers available, normally a Larkins, Sharps and two guest beers. The wine list is extensive and includes wine by the glass.

The dining room, seating 30, can be booked for private functions and the entire venue can be booked for wedding receptions.

Jazz Evenings are held on the first Sunday of the month. From 7.30 pm the Broadway Band and guests entertain with swinging jazz, featuring the great Broadway songbook - bring your requests!
